Kherson - 2023

Project to save Kherson after the Kakhovka dam broke.

About project

This year, Ukraine and the world faced a disaster unprecedented in the 21st century - the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. Russia again brought death and destruction to Ukrainian lands. First of all, this tragedy destroyed thousands of homes and killed tens of thousands of animals. Another problem is the lack of water in houses. People are adapting to life in new realities, because they must collect water from mobile points or water tankers, collect rainwater or buy bottled water. Currently, cities and villages do not even have technical water. We would like to add that after the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, there were many dangerous substances in the water that could cause serious infectious diseases, in particular intestinal infections, botulism, hepatitis, cholera and anthrax. There is a lot of work ahead, which includes cleaning all sources of drinking water and wells, examining and disinfecting other bodies of water. The Foundation, together with volunteers in the city of Kherson and our partner Ukraine TrustChain, launched a project to pump water from buildings in the city, as well as for disinfection.
